Plenty of us are terrible at swallowing pills. If that's you, a liquid multivitamin feels like a small life upgrade, and MaryRuth's Liquid Multivitamin is the one sitting at number one on Amazon's multivitamin bestseller list.

It's a daily multi with a twist. Alongside the usual vitamins, MaryRuth's added an ingredient aimed at thicker, fuller hair. Here's how it all works.

Two tablespoons, done

The serving is two tablespoons (30 mL) a day, ideally in the morning. You can take it straight, mix it into juice, or have it with breakfast. The company says it works with food or on an empty stomach, so there's no fussy timing.

It comes in peach mango or dragon fruit melon, and it's sugar-free. The 30 oz bottle gives you 30 servings, so one bottle is a month. One tip from the label: shake it well and keep it in the fridge once it's open.

What's in the bottle

The base is a proper daily multivitamin. You'll find:

  • vitamins A (as beta carotene), C, D3 and E

  • all eight B vitamins, including methylcobalamin for B12 and folate as calcium L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate

  • zinc, chromium and choline

  • inositol, MSM, betaine and hesperidin

  • a branched chain amino acid complex (leucine, isoleucine and valine)

Then there's the hair part. MaryRuth's uses Lustriva, an ingredient made from inositol-stabilized arginine silicate and magnesium biotinate. The company says Lustriva is clinically shown in women to help grow thicker, fuller hair in as early as three weeks, and to improve the look of fine lines and skin smoothness.

Biotin is the other headline. Each serving has 10,000 mcg of biotin as magnesium biotinate, which MaryRuth's says is 40 times more soluble than standard D-biotin.

I like that the label on MaryRuth's Liquid Multivitamin spells out the forms. Methylated B12 and active folate are things people specifically look for, and they're here.

The clean label crowd will be happy

This is where MaryRuth's has built its name. The multivitamin is vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, nut-free and sugar-free, and made in a GMP facility. It's also Clean Label Project Certified, and MaryRuth's is a B Corp and a women-owned business. If you care who you buy from, those are real points in its favor.

The flavor comes from natural flavors, cranberry fruit powder and organic noni, with organic aloe vera inner leaf in the mix too. No dyes.

Who it suits

The product is pitched at women, and the hair growth claims come from studies in women. That said, the base formula is a general adult multi for anyone 18 and up. I'd point it toward someone who:

  • hates swallowing tablets

  • wants one product for daily vitamins and hair support instead of two or three

  • has noticed more hair in the brush than they'd like and wants to try a nutrition angle

It's a nice ritual, too. A spoonful of something that tastes like fruit is a lot easier to stick with than a handful of capsules, and with hair, sticking with it is the whole game. Hair grows slowly, so give it a couple of months before you judge.

Before you start

High-dose biotin can throw off some blood tests, including thyroid and heart (troponin) tests. Tell your doctor you take it before any lab work, or ask whether to pause it for a few days first. If you're pregnant or trying to conceive, this isn't a prenatal, so check with your doctor about the right multi for you. And don't go over the two tablespoons.

If you've wanted a multivitamin that's easy to take and gives your hair some love at the same time, MaryRuth's Liquid Multivitamin is a lovely place to start. Pick a flavor, keep it next to the coffee maker, and let it become part of your morning.
